   Diện mạo của thứ mà “bách thảo bất cảm tiên khai hoa” ấy được Đỗ Trọng Huề phác thảo một cách tinh tế trong phần đầu quyển sách, từ lịch sử, ý nghĩa, vị thế, giá trị cho đến thú thưởng thức thanh thao của tao nhân mặc khách lịch triều, những danh tác của danh nhân viết về trà như Lư Đồng, Trần Nguyên Hãn, Trần Quang Khải, Nguyễn Trãi, Chu Văn An, Cao Bá Quát,…, những thương hiệu trà nổi tiếng ở Việt Nam, Trung Quốc và thế giới cùng với quá trình mà Chiai Catai – danh hiệu đầu tiên của trà trong văn học phương Tây – xâm nhập vào lục địa này.

    – Phần thứ hai là hành trình đi tìm dấu tích của Hùng Vương trong dã sử và chính sử Việt Nam, dấu vết Hùng Vương trong thư tịch Trung Quốc và đối sánh dã sử, chính sử về Hùng Vương trong cổ thư Việt Nam – Trung Quốc. Phần này cũng làm gợi lại cuộc tranh cãi nảy lửa giữa nhiều học giả về danh tự Hùng Vương. Rốt cuộc là Hùng Vương hay Lạc Vương? Hùng nhầm sang Lạc hay Lạc lẫn sang Hùng? Cuộc tranh cãi đến nay đã ngót trăm năm kể từ khi H. Maspero đặt ra vấn đề này lần đầu tiên vào năm 1918.

    – Tạm rời xa vị quốc tổ, tác giả đưa ta tiếp cận đến những vĩ nhân khác của đất Việt: Tam tổ Trúc Lâm – Trần Nhân Tông, Pháp Loa và Huyền Quang qua phần Sự tích Tam tổ. Một danh nhân khác cũng được kể đến là Nguyễn Du. Thân thế, cuộc đời và sự nghiệp của ông được tái hiện rõ nét ở phần 4 của quyển sách.

    – Cuối cùng, là niềm trăn trở mang tính thời sự của thời buổi ấy: Tiếp nhận chương trình giáo dục Pháp hay chương trình giáo dục Việt? Tại sao lại trăn trở khi mà chương trình của Pháp có quá nhiều ưu việt? Học sinh được giáo dục tiên tiến, thông thạo tiếng Pháp, có cơ hội du học nước ngoài, trở thành kẻ có chức quyền trong guồng máy chính trị, kinh tế,… Phải chăng nó có những tai hại ngấm ngầm nào đó? Và giáo dục Việt, ngàn năm qua, có được điểm mạnh gì?
