Tôi nghe như vầy: Một thuở nọ đức Phật ở trong núi Kỳ Xà Quật tại thành Vương Xá cùng với đại Tỳ Kheo Tăng trên năm ngàn người, đều là những bậc A La Hán đã hết hữu lậu dứt phiền não, tâm được giải thoát, huệ được giải thoát, tâm ý điều nhu, là bực đại long tượng, chỗ làm đã xong, lợi mình đã được, sạch hết kiết sử, bỏ gánh hoặc nghiệp, kham gánh chánh pháp, do chánh trí mà được giải thoát. Riêng Ngài A Nan là còn ở bực hữu học, chứng quả Tu Đà Hoàn.
Lại có năm trăm Tỳ Kheo Ni, Ưu Bà Tắc, Ưu Bà Di thấy được thánh đế.
Lại có hàng đại Bồ Tát đều được những môn đà là ni và những môn tam muội, thật hành không, vô tướng, vô tác, đã được đẳng nhẫn và vô ngại tổng trì. Đây đều là bực ngũ thần thông không còn giải đãi, đã rời bỏ danh lợi, thuyết pháp không cầu báo, lời nói ra tất được mọi người kính tin, chứng thâm pháp nhẫn được sức vô úy, giải thoát tất cả ma hạnh nghiệp chướng, khéo tuyên nói pháp nhơn duyên. Từ vô số kiếp đến nay, các Ngài phát thệ nguyện lớn, nhan sắc hòa vui thường thưa hỏi trước, lời nói dịu dàng, ở giữa đại chúng tự tại không sợ, từng khéo thuyết pháp từ vô số ức kiếp, biết rõ các pháp như ảo, như diệm, như bóng trăng trong nước, như hư không, như vang, như bóng, như mộng, như thành càn thát bà, như tượng trong gương, như biến hóa, đã được vô ngại vô úy biết rõ tâm hành của chúng sanh dùng trí huệ vi diệu mà cứu độ chúng. Các Ngài đã thành tựu đại nhẫn vô ngại như thật, nguyện lãnh thọ vô lượng thế giới của chư Phật, tưởng niệm đến vô lượng thế giới, chư Phật chánh định thường hiện tiền, có thể thỉnh vô lượng chư Phật, có thể dứt những kiến chấp và các phiền não, xuất sanh và du hí trăm ngàn muôn tam muội. Hàng đại Bồ Tát đây thành tựu vô lượng công đức như vậy. Danh hiệu của các Ngài là: Bạt Đà Là Bồ Tát, Kế Na Na Dà La Bồ Tát, Đạo Sư Bồ Tát, Na La Đạt Bồ Tát, Tinh Đắc Bồ Tát, Thủy Thiên Bồ Tát, Chủ Thiên Bồ Tát, Đại Ý Bồ Tát, Ých Ý Bồ Tát, Tăng Ý Bồ Tát, Bất Hư Kiến Bồ Tát, Thiện Tấn Bồ Tát, Thế Thắng Bồ Tát, Thường Cần Bồ Tát, Bất Xả Tinh Tấn Bồ Tát, Nhựt Tạng Bồ Tát, Bất Khuyết Ý Bồ Tát, Quán Thế Âm Bồ Tát, Văn Thù Sư Lợi Bồ Tát, Chấp Bửu Ấn Bồ Tát, Thường Cử Thủ Bồ Tát, Từ Thị Bồ Tát, có trăm ngàn muôn ức na do tha đại Bồ Tát như vậy. Hàng đại Bồ Tát nầy đều là bực nhất sanh bổ xứ nối ngôi Phật.
