Tiếng Miên rất dễ học nói. Người nào có dịp sống ở Cao-Miên hoặc ở mấy tỉnh miền Tây có đồng bào gốc Miên đều công nhận rằng đúng. Nguyên do vì văn phạm Miên không mấy gì rắc rối và gần giống tiếng Việt: học từng chữ một ráp lại thành câu. Việt nói sao, Miên nói vậy. Ví dụ: ”Tôi đi chợ mua bánh” tiếng Miên là “Khnhum tâu phsar tinh num”, “Ngày mai anh tôi mua bánh ở chợ” = ” Saếch, bon khnum tinh num nãu phsar”. Ngoại trừ một vài điều dễ nhớ như số lượng bao giờ cũng để phía sau món vật, ví dụ ta nói “ba con cá” thì người Miên nói “cá ba con”.
Chữ Miên cũng dễ học. Dù chưa biết nói, ai cũng có thể vừa học chữ vừa nói dễ dàng. Tuy có vẻ ngoằn ngoèo, rắc rối nhưng chữ Miên nhờ có nguyên âm và phụ âm như chữ Việt nên ráp vần không khó. Tổng số có 33 phụ âm chia làm 2 loại = 1 loại gồm 18 phụ âm giọng lớn gọi là giọng Ô, 1 loại gồm 15 phụ âm giọng nhỏ gọi là giọng O, 21 nguyên âm hóa hợp và 12 nguyên âm đơn. Thuộc hết bấy nhiêu chữ và phương pháp ráp vần là viết được chữ Miên.
